Chris Hatton (Chair) read more

Chris has been a member and director of Legra Academy Trust since its launch. He formerly served as a governor at Belfairs Academy.

He is a journalist and newspaper editor, overseeing a portfolio of titles including the Echo, the daily paper for south Essex. He also oversees training of journalists.


Robin Marcus (Vice Chair) read more

I am proud to be the Vice Chair of Legra Academy Trust. Born in Westcliff on Sea, I attended Chalkwell Junior School and Belfairs High School. Belfairs set me up for a successful career as a solicitor practising locally for 25 years. In addition to my work as a lawyer I developed an internet marketing business employing people from the local community and beyond.

I have always lived in Southend, attending Westborough Infant and Junior schools and then onto Southend High School for Girls. Following my teacher training I returned to Southend to teach in Shoebury. 


Iain Martin (Director) read more

Professor Martin grew up in Hampshire before taking up a place at the University of Leeds to study Medicine.

After his undergraduate education he completed post-graduate training in Surgery in Yorkshire, concluding as Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Leeds.

He then took up the role of Senior Lecturer and Consultant Surgeon at the University of Leeds and the Leeds General Infirmary.


Mick Thwaites (Director) read more

Mick has lived in Southend for over 30 years. He is currently working with 'The Stockvale Group' of companies who are better known for operating Adventure Island, Radio Essex etc.

He is also the chair of 'The Southend Hospital Foundation' and a member of 'The Citizens of Southend' committee who recognise good work by individuals and groups within the borough of Southend.


John Hunt (Director) read more

John is Chief Operating Officer of Finance & Quality at Bromley College of F&HE.

John is a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accounts and lives in Essex with his wife and three children. Initially starting his finance career in the manufacturing industry John has over 20 years of finance experience including 10 years as a forensic accountant and leading Accounts, Compliance and IT for a regulatory body in the legal sector.


Janet Jones (Director) read more

Janet has worked in the secondary sector of education for 40 years. She began her career as a linguist, was involved as a teacher trainer and over the past 20 years has worked as a successful senior manager in a variety of schools in Essex and elsewhere. As a headteacher she brought her experience to schools and communities where a fresh approach was required.
